Kruger National Park

Kruger National Park is the largest national park in South Africa, a massive 2 million hectares. This is before you consider the private game reserves like Sabi Sands and Timbavati located in the southern part of the Kruger.
The park was established in 1898 to protect the wildlife of the South African Lowveld. It is managed the South African National Parks Board and is unrivalled in the diversity of its life forms and a world leader in advanced environmental management techniques and policies. Kruger is home to an impressive number of species: 336 trees, 49 fish, 34 amphibians, 114 reptiles, 507 birds and 147 mammals. The central and southern parts of the park have the best facilities for visitors, with an excellent network of roads and game-viewing waterholes.

Greater Limpopo Transfrontier Park

The Greater Limpopo Transfrontier Park will link the Limpopo National Park in Mozambique; Kruger National Park in South Africa; Gonarezhou National Park, Manjinji Pan Sanctuary and Malipati Safari Area in Zimbabwe, as well as two areas between Kruger and Gonarezhou, namely the Sengwe communal land in Zimbabwe and the Makuleke region in South Africa into one huge conservation area of 35 000 kmē. Private Game Reserves in the Greater Kruger

The southern part of the Kruger has a number of fantastic private reserves and concessions. Most of those that border the National Park have unfenced boundaries with the Kruger allowing animals to roam freely in this greater wildlife area. The main reserves are: Timbavati, Sabi Sand, Ulusaba and Thornybush. There are also a number of private concessions inside and outside the national park.

Timbavati Game Reserve: Timbavati Nature Reserve lies just north of Sabi Sand on the western edge of Kruger National Park and is considered to be one of South Africa?s prime game viewing areas. Within the reserve are a number of small privately owned game lodges and there are no fences between these lodges and the Kruger National Park, thus allowing for free movement of the wildlife. The Timbavati reserve is world famous for its white lions.

Sabi Sand Reserve: The Sabi Sand Reserve isadjacent to the Kruger National Park and consists of various private game reserves: MalaMala Game Reserve, Djuma Game Reserve, Lion Sands Reserve, Exeter Private Game Reserve, Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve, Londolozi Private Game Reserve, Singita Game Reserve and Ulusaba Private Game Reserve. Ulusaba Game Reserve: Ulusaba Private Game Reserve is set in the heart of the Sabi Sands Game Reserve that borders the sprawling Kruger National Park. The reserve is owned by Sir Richard Branson. As Ulusaba is privately owned, guest are able to enjoy over 10 000 acres of unspoilt, game-rich bush in near solitude. Experienced trackers and game rangers accompany guests on game drives in open land rovers, tracking the Big Five and sharing with you their vast knowledge of the surrounding wildlife. Thornybush Game Reserve: Thornybush Game Reserve is situated in 11 500 hectares of pristine African bushveld.
