About Little Kulala
Little Kulala lies in the heart of the Namib Desert. The camp is built
on the western side of the Kulala Wilderness Reserve, which borders the Namib
Naukluft Park. Kulala Wilderness Reserve is ideal in proximity as it is
the closest reserve to Sossusvlei. To the west it offers spectacular views of
the Sossusvlei dunes, the rugged mountains to the north and east, with glimpses
of vast grassy plains in between.
Little Kulala has some of the design features of the established
Kulala Desert Lodge, but is smaller and is situated on the dry Auab River bed.
Little Kulala offers accommodation in eleven stylish thatched and canvas chalets set
on wooden platforms. Each chalet has its own private en-suite
bathroom and wrap-around veranda with a small plunge pool. An internal
staircase leads to the flat roof top for a private star viewing experience.
If you enjoy the vast night sky and sense of open space of the Namib
Desert enough, you have the added opportunity of moving your mattress to the
rooftop of your chalet for a unique nights rest. The main area of Little
Kulala has a relaxing lounge, dining room, bar and curio shop under thatch.
There is also an outdoor swimming pool with a fantastic view of the dunes.
Activities include early morning guided game drives to the Sossusvlei dunes
where breakfast can be enjoyed al-fresco.Game drives and walks are also
available on the private reserve. Whilst the area is not game rich, it does
offer the opportunity to view more interesting desert game and smaller
desert-adapted fauna and flora.Nature walks and
night safaris are another way to take in this unique environment.
Another option, at an extra cost, is early morning
ballooning, beginning at first light. The 60-90 minute balloon safari offers a
truly unique experience to soar silently above the magnificent sand dunes and
desert, with a champagne breakfast being served at your landing site.
