About Sossusvlei Wilderness Camp
Sossusvlei Wilderness Camp is situated on the 21 000 hectare Kulala Wilderness
Reserve, 34km from the entrance to the Sossusvlei, the spectacular red dunes
within the heart of Namibia's Namib Desert. The property has a unique
setting among a rocky outcrop that harbours vast desert plains and rugged
mountains with views onto the dunes in the near distance.
Built near the top of a mountain using natural resources of brick, rock
timber and thatch, the Sossusvlei Wilderness Camp blends effortlessly with its
surroundings. There are nine well appointed guest rooms, each with en
-suite facilities and private plunge pools. The main living area of the lodge is
under thatch with a pool. There is also an outdoor deck where one can dine
under the stars. This is a unique landscape and has the most amazing
stargazing opportunities from its vast uninterrupted night skies. The
Sossusvlei Wilderness Camp gives guest the opportunity to take advantage of this
with their dedicated stargazing platform equipped with a powerful
telescope.
Whilst the area is not game rich, it does offer the opportunity to view more interesting desert game and smaller
desert-adapted fauna and flora. Afternoon nature drive or walking
activities are enjoyed on the property where guests can spend time taking in the
desert scenery and its unique fauna and flora. Night drives using spotlights
offer sightings of cape fox, aardwolf, black-backed jackals, bat eared foxes and
spotted hyena.
Another option, at an extra cost, is early morning
ballooning, beginning at first light. The 60-90 minute balloon safari offers a
truly unique experience to soar silently above the magnificent sand dunes and
desert, with a champagne breakfast being served at your landing site.
