About Skeleton Coast Camp
Skeleton Coast Camp is a six-roomed luxury tented camp in the heart of
Skeleton Coast Park within a private concession area.
The terrain is rugged and harsh, hence this camp will be enjoyed by
those who are looking for a true uninhabited desolate wilderness experience, in some of the
most spectacular scenery in southern Africa. It is built on an island in
the dry Khumib riverbed, approximately 20km inland from the coastline. In
the recent past access to this private area has been limited, but now can be
enjoyed as a 4-5 day fly-in safari. Skeleton Coast Camp consists of 6
large spacious en-suite tents. The communal area of the camp is set under
the shade of an old Leadwood tree, where guests can enjoy al-fresco dining.
Due to the vast area and rocky terrain, the majority of activities
include the use of 4x4 vehicles that are closed to the elements.
However all vehicles have pop-top roofs and sliding windows to avail of
good weather. There is also the additional opportunity for
walking excursions. Activities include full-day or half day nature
drives or walks. A picnic lunch can be enjoyed during the full day
trips. Excursions are varied and include visits to the
clay castles of the Hoarusib River, Rocky Point, dunes, lichen fields,
seal colonies, Himba villages and shipwreck sites. Some animal
viewing can also be found at the secret water seeps that attract oryx,
springbok, giraffe, ostrich, brown hyena, jackal and other smaller
mammals.
