About Makalolo Plains Camp

Makalolo Plains Camp is situated in a remote area within the vast Hwange National Park and is one of the few camps built within the Park. Hwange has an abundance of wildlife with massive herds of Elephant and Buffalo - especially in the dryer winter months. The Makalolo area is ecologically diverse, including vast, open, palm-fringed plains, grasslands, acacia woodlands, and teak forests.

Makalolo is made up of two small camps - Makalolo Plains and Little Makalolo - which have exclusive use of a massive concession area within Hwange National Park.

Game drives are in open 4x4 vehicles during the early morning and late afternoon, when game is most active. Foot safaris are also avaialble, and are accompanied by an armed professional guide. The camp is set in a unique location, overlooking the Samavundhla Pan - which attracts game in good concentrations.

The entire camp is raised on wooden boardwalks and platforms, giving guests excellent views over the waterhole and floodplain in front of the camp. The camp has nine large, comfortable tented rooms with en-suite shower, toilet and basin. There is also a lounge, pub and plunge pool.

There is an outdoor shower for those who enjoy showering under the stars. The lighting in the rooms is battery powered - ensuring peace and quiet in camp. Meals are enjoyed in the separate raised dining area.

Little Makalolo is the "sister" camp to Makalolo Plains. It is located about 20 minutes' drive away from Makalolo Plains and is completely independently run, with its own staff, management and guides. The camp is built among Teak trees looking towards a waterhole and pan which is about 100m away from camp. The camp is built on the ground, unlike Makalolo Plains, which is raised up on decking. There is a hide in front of the camp which gives great views onto the waterhole. There are five tented rooms, each with bathroom facilities within the tent. There is an outside shower too for those who want to enjoy the stars while showering. There is a swimming pool.
